URSSAF

My husband and I are both retired but not yet 60. We have been resident in France since May 2005. We recently recieved an 'avis d'echeance' with a demand for payment of a cotisation for the 2eme trim 2007.  We have never had one previously.

I understood that URSSAF was for employed people or employers. If that is not the case could someone please help me understand why we have received this demand for payment?

Many thanks in advance

Did your E106 expire in January. If it did you would become liable to pay contributions for your health cover. This could explain the first appearance of the demand for payment. URSSAf acting as the collection agent for CPAM.

I agree it is a little daunting when you receive the first URSSAF demand out of the blue like that, but you just write them a cheque and put it in the envelope provided, with the lower part of the demand and that is you paid up for the quarter concerned.

To be on the safe side I always keep a copy of the cheque to prove I have sent it, in case it gets lost.

If you are not working in France then you are affiliated to your local CPAM by virtue of residency; the URSSAF is just the collection agency for your charges; CPAM has no means to collect money due to them.
