Abertawe
We've recently signed a sales contract on our house in France and have agreed (as we think is the norm) to complete with 3 months. In our case this was given as the 31st of May 2009. Does this mean it will all be done and dusted by then ie: all the legal stuff will be done and the cheque will be in our hands, or will it go beyond that date? Now we have signed, a friend of ours (really) has told us that 'legally' it can go 30 days beyond the date given - in which case it's going to cause us real problems with our UK puchase. Thanks guys. mint
Abertawe, don't they tell you it will be on 31 May UNLESS..............The date, as far as I know is not written in stone?BTW, are you really going back to Swansea, or some place else? Patf
You should speak to your notaire and say how urgent it is. You will need to convert the cheque to sterling as well.We sold our first house and bought the second (which was cheaper) on the same day, but didn't receive the balance in our bank account for another 10 days afterwards. There's some regulation about the transaction being published in a register of property deals.Perhaps you could bring forward the date of the Acte de Vente. Quillan
What Pat says it correct. Details are 'circulated' to ensure there are no further 'encumbrances' on the property before they hand over the money.
Abertawe
Thanks guys. We'll now contact the agent and see what can be done - we'd not even considered asking for the sale proceeds in Sterling either.Cheers.
Stan Streason
Are you selling to French or English (sorry British)? When I recently purchased we did the deal in sterling and the cash was deposited with a UK solicitor. It was transferred to the vendor immediately upon completion. Of course will not work if your purchaser has Euros.
Abertawe
The purchasers are French so maybe as you suggest sterling would not be possible. :-/
