I know this has probably been posted before, but who would I need to ask if I want to know what these two bills are for my property. Is it the Tresorie or Hotel des Impots?? Just so I have an idea what they will be[6] when they do come.

The Trésor public is only the collector for taxes and I doubt if they can give you any information  on what your two taxes will be this year, you would need to go to your local Hôtel des Impôts with all your paperwork, again I think they will tell you to wait for the bills to arrive.

I don't know when you bought your property but if it was after January 1st 2008 then you will not have to pay the Taxe d'habitation this year.

I am aware what a search entails and all that goes with it, but I do not know what last years amounts were as I moved in September 2007 and paid what was effectively was the Sept to Dec amount to the outgoing owner. What no-one bothered to tell me was what the amounts were for 2007. I would just be interested to know where I could find that info as it would help with my annual budget. Thanks for the replies.

If you pop into your local tax office and explain you are a new owner and ask them for details of your property taxes, they will look up the last bills on the system and explain them to you.  The bills are calculated according to percentages levied by the commune, department, etc, so may vary slightly year on year.  At least you'll get a ball park figure to work out your budget.

They will also advise you if you are due any reductions or exonerations, dependent upon your presonal circumstances.
