Benjamin
you have a french mariage settlement(prenuptial agreement)I take it therefore that 95% of people on this forum will never qualify then?
makeiteasy
No, your notaire may have changed it with your agreement for a french one when you have purchased in France(usually they do a "communaute universelle"), so you may have it and if not you can do it with your notaire.[I]

Panda
HelloOn the other end of this I've seen investment adverts to buy a house which is 'en viager' whereby you pay a low valuation, in this case I saw one for100k for 3 appartments in a nice part of Bordeaux and then you pay the current owner a monthly amount, again in this case about 1500 euros a month until they die at which time the property becomes yours. The one I saw was unoccupied so you rent the appartments out and keep the rent, It looked interesting but I couldn't help thinkinig how awful it would be to be hoping someone kicked the bucket sooner rather than later... Others I've seen are occupied so the amount you pay them each month is much reduced as you have no means of getting any income until the person dies.. bit morbid I thought.Panda
woolybananasbrother
Anglo Saxon reticence my dear Panda. Viager is quite common in Belgium and is essentially a gamble. Bit like buying wheat futures really. Can't see anything wrong with it if you like a punt.

moonraker
Selling "en viager" is very common in France; you just have to know where to look.Make sure you don't die before the seller!http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeanne_Calment
