PaulT
Just received a letter inviting us to pay our 2008 taxe fonciere by direct debit and also offering to pay the 2009 bill by monthly instalments from January to October. As bills are not sent out until September how would they know what to charge if we opt paying the 2009 bill from January to October, basically in advance?Paul
BJSLIV
how would they know what to charge if we opt paying the 2009 ?You pay an amount based on last year plus a bit for inflation , with any difference settled at the end.I cannot seen any advantage to be gained by joining the scheme. Perhaps it appeals to the sort of people who used to buy phone stamps or join the Christmas stamps club in Morrisons.
Patf
Well I must be the kind of person who used to buy phone stamps because I pay several bills monthly, or 2 monthly. I've found that paying annually, most seem to come Sept/Oct and we just haven't got enough in the bank. There are some which cost slightly more if paid monthly eg car insurance. BJSLIV
Isn't it better to pay the same amount into a savings account and gain a bit of interest in the meantime?
Patf
That's a good idea BJSLIV and I might try it. But the chances are any savings account will get dipped into for "emergencies" at the moment. The poor exchange rate is really squeezing us financially. There's no longer any margin for error.
