Babbles
We've had a French morgage but have now sold that house and are looking to buy another, we don't have an English morgage so all out income can be used as the calculator for the French one. Our income has doubled since our last one was calculated so I've no idea how much we can now borrow, Is there a ball park calculation we can use to get a rough idea? I know that thers is some rule about 30% of your income being used to calculate the monthly repayments but I don't know how that works back to a total amount that you can borrow. giantpanda
Hi!Try here.http://www.lesechos.fr/patrimoine/calcul/cac/appletcac.htmlHowever best is to start talking to your bank, so you can get the feel of the situation. The new " conditions" practised by the banks since this year are hardly transparent.Afterwards you can talk to others too, to compare.Yours, giantpanda
Babbles
Thanks for that, its a lot easier than the one I was looking at with Credit Acricole, we Bank with BNP and had our mortgage ith UCB does anyone know how competitve they are, as we're self employed the easy option is to stick with them as they need so much paper work when applying for a loan, or is that just being lazy [;-)]
makeiteasy
Dear Miss Babs,i would recommend you to shop arround as for sure you will find better deals. If you are too lazy, ask a mortgage broker. You would benefit his network of banks and negociated conditions of rates, bank fees, penalties, etc...on top. It's worth trying[;-)]Post edited by the moderators. tuppence
I would second this idea. I am 60+ and all my income is through pensions and an annuity. Last year I contacted a broker who arranged a mortgage with one of the main banks in France. At 4% fixed for 5 years with the option to do the same for a further 5 years, it was great. I was kept in touch every week with e-mails and phone calls from the bi-lingual broker. It couldn't have been better. If you want more details I would be happy to have you PM me for them.tuppence
Babbles
I was feeling guilty about being a little bit lazy [;-)] so have now contacted a broker, we did use one when we got the first and it was useful as my french was even poorer then than it is now! The doubting Thomas in me does wonder how independant they are and with our recent French experience there is nothing like walking into an office to get things sorted, email is just too easy to ignore! But if I ask for a list of the best 4 mortgage deals and have a close look at who is offering them I don't suppose we can go too wrong!
