We thought we were doing okay understanding our first bills etc but we've just received our first bank statement and there are a couple of debits on the account. The first says "PREL.CSCA CONFORT ECT D.IMM" (for 7,20) and the second says "PRELEVEMENT ADI PARTICULIER" (for 0,23). Can anyone throw any light on these please?

The first one looks like some form of standing order for internet banking or a similar monthly service. I can't help you with the second one, only that it is a prelevement so you would have signed to allow for it. What bank are you with?

Aren't these optional unemployment and/or debt insurance packages or equally optional combined revolving credit and internet banking packages that have been thrust upon you by your bank? French banks are good at giving you these when you don't want them.

Hi

We're with CA and have in fact just today written to them to cancel our "CSCA Confort" on 2 of our 3 accounts.

CSCA Confort is an insurance offered by CA to protect you against theft and misuse of your cheque book, as well as other protections.

We took it out on all our current accounts when we were new and even more naive than now ! Hence cancelling 2 of 3 of them now.

Sorry - no idea what the 2nd one is

Best wishes

Chris and Martin

PS Also look out for a prelevement (direct debit) for "Familial-Uni-Edition" which is a monthly magazine from CA that appears to be an equivalent of Readers Digest. Which would be bad enough, but given it's in French for those of us less than fluent it's only good for helping keeping the local recycling bins full - at 8.16 per month per account !!

Look at the post 'Credit Agricole Charges' on this site - it's all explained

'Confort' is the middle-range 'package' that you (voluntarily)  pay for (ie you can cancel)  - it includes life insurance, travel etc, which you may not need. The basic account is free and a mastercard is 36€ per annum (2009) with mastercard's own fraud insurance attached.

I still dunno what the 23c is for ... 'transparency', eh?

ADI particulier is interest on an agreed "decouvert" or overdraft.

All the 2002 posters have the same 2004 joining date.  Forum quirk, prehaps? [/quote]

For those of us who were members of the old forum before the great swapover on 23 August 2004 the archive of old posts was retained and carried over and the posters were transferred en masse to the 'new' forum so we all appear to have the same joining date. Anyone who joined after that date has an individual joining date.
