Hillsider
I posted under the Finding/Owning French Property section recently. My post was entitled 'Will I ever be able to afford my move to France'. At time of posting the exchange rate was 1.18. That was just about possible to continue with my long held plans but today I canceled the accommodation I had booked and the appointments made with various estate agents. Many of the replies I received from my post were encouraging about the likelihood of receiving substantial discounts off the price of houses to offset the poor rate of exchange. However I am sure substantial discounts can still be achieved at a slightly better exchange rate. After all every cent downwards comes to a lot of money when you are exchanging around £150,000. I am hoping that the article posted about a recovery next year is even half way true. I was really down today but that article cheered me up enormously! Let's hope the author knows what he is talking about! So maybe next year after all?

NormanH
Perhaps a bit brighter...this article suggests it won't go much lower...but what does he know?
mint
Norman, your article also suggests that "the current levels seem about right". But "about right" for whom? Not for me as I'm now feeling very far from well-off and everything, including supermarket purchases, seems very expensive. Benjamin
For what it's worth here is another "opinion" which seems to be saying that €uroland will soon be suffering and Sterling will recover.
