chocccie
I read somewhere that some on low income don't pay tax d'habitation. Is this just of OAPs, or does it apply to others of low (or no) income? Thanks

Edward Trunk
If you are registered on the French tax system and have completed a declaration des revenus then your taxe d'hab will be adjusted according to your income.
mint
Yes, in theory, but still check it out for yourself.I speak as one who has paid, at the last count, 5 visits to the Tax Office to try and sort it out. To be fair, we do have an unusual situation whereby we bought one of 2 buildings from the previous proprietor. We have had one appeal turned down but now the kind people from our local Tresor have taken on our case and are doing the necessary. So, I'd say, definitely verify things for yourself and do not depend on any "automatic" adjustment. splishsplash
We are retired & last year our income was not high enough to pay French Tax.We did not receive a Tax d'Habitation demand & I phoned up the Hotel des Impots who told me that as we did not pay tax, we were excempt this year. Sunday Driver
SplishsplashThe computer automatically checked your date of birth on your tax record and saw that your revenu fiscale de reference for the year was below 15 091 € so it just tossed your bill into the bin.....[;-)]
mint
Wish they'd done that with our bill, SD.In fact, I had to point out the OH's dob (1931) for them and they took a double take and said they'd not noticed that and then they took photocopies of everything and said to leave it all with them. oscar
We're 50 and 52 and the last time we paid taxe d'hab was when we were second home owners. Since we've lived here and filled out a tax form we've only ever been charged for the TV licence.
