Bank accounts: state guarantee

I would like to know the extent to which bank accounts in France are covered by the state guarantee, in the case of an account jointly owned by husband and wife.

The limit is usually stated as 70 000 € per depositor, and the official website says this, among other things:

Pour déterminer le montant indemnisable de déposants titulaires d’un compte-joint, il est tenu compte de la part revenant à chaque déposant dans le total du compte-joint.  Cette part est ajoutée aux dépôts spécifiques à chaque déposant s’il y a lieu, le tout dans la limite de 70 000 € par déposant.

I read this to mean that if my wife and I jointly own a deposit account, we are treated as separate depositors, and as long as neither of us has any other account with the same bank, the deposit is guaranteed up to 140 000 €.  But it would be nice to be 100% sure.  Can anyone confirm this?

Hi,

      That's certainly how it reads to me. Each joint depositor's half of the joint account + any other personal accounts they may have is covered up to 70000€ for each bank.
