allanb
I've just received my avis for tax on 2008 income, and it contains a couple of changes in method, for no apparent reason:(1) the old people's allowance (abattement personnes âgées) has been deducted in arriving at the revenu fiscal de référence. In previous years it wasn't. I don't think this affects the tax payable, but it's odd. Does anyone know whether it's correct?(2) much more important: I have some revenu exonéré, which of course I declared, but it's been omitted from the calculation completely. On the face of it this will result in a useful tax refund, but I'm pretty sure it's just a mistake. The only change in my circumstances in 2008 was that I reached the age of 70, but I'm not aware of any tax change related to that. One interesting point: there was some debate earlier on this forum about whether numbers declared on line are taken automatically into the calculation program. My avis seems to show that this does not happen. The revenu exonéré, declared in box TI, was shown correctly in the acknowledgment of the declaration. So it looks as though a human being made the decision, or the error, of not entering it in the program that does the assessment.

parsnips
Hi, Was the "abattement personnes ageées" also separately deducted from the income which is taxed in France (revenu imposable)? If not you could be paying more tax than you should .

In fact the error in this case - assuming it is an error - reduces the tax to zero, with or without the allowance.
