tuppence
Hi,As some of you may have read on another thread, I recently discovered that I had a fosse septique as opposed to the mains drains I presumed I was on. It will need emptying at a cost in future years. Am I right in thinking that in this situation, I shouldn't be paying as much on water bills or even fonciere and habitation tax bills? I have discovered the house plans with all the necessary diagrams showing where the fosse is etc. And obviously proof of an emptying of said fosse 2 weeks ago. My documents when purchasing the property all stated that everything was "tout a l'egout", which it very obviously isn't!! [+o(]tuppence
suein56
My documents when purchasing the property all stated that everything was "tout a l'egout", which it very obviously isn't!!
This might not be relevant but occurred when I went to look round a house for sale yesterday. Asking the agent if the house had a fosse I was given this reply: Yes the house has an up-to-date fosse, but mains drainage has recently become available in the road. So you have the choice - you can use the fosse or pay for connection to the mains. There won't be any saving on your water bill if you use the fosse as you will be billed as though you had mains connection - because it is available and you have chosen not to use it. So there you are; you pay either way. I was so astonished, I forgot to ask if mains connection makes any difference to taxe d'hab or taxe fonc.Sue . Dave&Olive
Hi OK I can only say what happens in our area as they all seem to read the rules differently . As you all know I put my own fosse in , 2 years later they put mains drains into the village .... I was lucky we were just out of the area I did ask what would happen if the mains drain were to pass our property and was told i would have 2 years to connect to it even though we have a new fosse, As for the charges you pay sewage charges if you have mains drains on the amount of water you use..... use say 10 cubic mtrs of water you pay for 10 cubic mtrs of sewage, Bet this rule was dreamed up by those who have wells .
