Compte épargne - taxed at source

Non-resident France. I intend to open a 'compte épargne' with my French bank. I have read here that the bank should offer the option to have tax deducted at source. If I take up this option, will this avoid the necessity of getting into the French tax system and hence having to file a French tax return? What would the correct French phrase be for 'tax deducted at source'?

Hi,

Another reason to not opt for this, even after you become french resident, is that the tax taken at source is at a set rate of 30.1% (CSG included)--probably much more than you are likely to be liable at if you declared it with your income. Once you are french resident you can switch to a tax-free savings account for at least some of your savings.
