anotherbanana Posted Friday at 12:07 Share Posted Friday at 12:07 Big vote in UK parliament today; listening to the twists and turns of some of the MPs is sickening when the country is very in favour. I wonder how much pressure has been brought by religious groups? Did France eventually decide in favour or was it lost at the last election? DaveLister Posted Friday at 15:56 Share Posted Friday at 15:56 My understanding is that you can request to be placed under deep sedation with all other medication withheld and allowed to 'die in your sleep'.
DaveLister Posted Friday at 15:58 Share Posted Friday at 15:58 Well it's passed in the UK. Think there's a long way to go yet.

The growing number of pupils going to private schools (usually Catholic) is a major factor in the lurch to the right and a hardening of social attitudes, as these schools teach their dogma, and of course mainly to the middle classes For example https://www.mediapart.fr/journal/france/280622/l-univers-sexiste-homophobe-et-autoritaire-de-stanislas-le-meilleur-lycee-de-france

anotherbanana Posted Saturday at 20:39 Author Share Posted Saturday at 20:39 It is not difficult to see why the middle classes want to educate their kids in a safer, more appropriate values; the great pity is that Catholic brainwashing is the price though I think their influence is exaggerated. NormanH Posted Saturday at 20:44 Share Posted Saturday at 20:44 " more appropriate values" I am not sure that the values of those schools are more appropriate than those of https://www.education.gouv.fr/les-valeurs-de-la-republique-l-ecole-1109

We did think of sending our two boys to the local private school (Catholic) in St James, principally as they had a ski holiday each year to teach them how to ski! We discussed it with other parents only to find that in general, the under achievers/trouble sum kids (as judged by their parents) were sent there as the supervision was more strict. We stuck to the state schools!! Le principal réseau constitué est celui des établissements d’origine catholique (96 % du total des établissements privés, 2 millions d’élèves soit 17 % du total des élèves scolarisés en France, dont 13 % dans le 1er degré, 21 % dans le second degré), il existe ensuite le réseau laïque (37 000 élèves), suivi du réseau juif (34 000), protestant (3 000) et musulman (12 000) qui font au total 3 % du privé sous contrat. anotherbanana Posted Monday at 17:06 Author Share Posted Monday at 17:06 Coming back to the right to die, I read that some minister from the muck it all up party has said that those wishing for assisted dying under the new legislation ( if it ever gets through) should pay, which rather puts pay to assisted dying for the poor. So it is not Socialist then?
DaveLister Posted yesterday at 09:07 Share Posted yesterday at 09:07 Maybe it could become an additional option on a funeral plan. I can see the adverts now.💀🛌⚰️
