Lehaut
One of the mechanical beings made here in Nantes has caused quite a stir in the city of Toulouse. It was even reported on the BBC Sunday programme on Radio 4 this morning. An interview with the Bishop holding special mass to ward off the evil spirits! https://france3-regions.francetvinfo.fr/occitanie/haute-garonne/toulouse/apologie-de-satan-et-eglises-en-feu-les-complotistes-s-enflamment-contre-un-spectacle-urbain-juge-diabolique-3021653.html
Loiseau
Those "Machines" creations are always amazing, and often in some ways disturbing. I was only thinking yesterday how much Hallowe'en has taken over Toussaint in France. When I was a newly-arrived student in Grenoble, in November 1960, I was amazed to see the street outside my room thronged with people carrying plants, walking silently along the road. My landlady explained about All Souls, and the chrysanthemums, and that there was a huge cemetery at the end of the street.
rowland
We used to have an apartment in the Var which we rented out in the summer months. I used to go down in late October to give it a deep clean ready for our visits over the winter and spring months. It overlooked a cemetery and it was always a joy to see all the different coloured chrysanthemums and there always used to be flower stalls set up at the entrances. Lovely memories. Yet another example of anglophone cultural imperialism 😪
