Stan Streason
7 months after completion I have just picked up my property documents.Other than to sell, will I ever need them again in France? My preference would be to keep them in England (where at least I have a fireproof safe and I know where things are). Thanks in advancePS no mortgage so not used as security on anything. Clarkkent
The concept of "deeds" - documents whose possession proves ownership - does not exist in France. (Land Registration means that deeds are no longer of importance in England when property has been registered.) The documents you have (possibly entitled "Expedition") report the contract between you and the seller and are not critical.
Judie
What you have is a certified copy of your title deeds which is important but of little real value. If you sell your property then the Notaire or estate agent will want you to relinquish it for their purposes (in order to prepare the compromis de vente).
