BRRRR It's COLD

Recommended Posts

Well, it was cold here, certainly colder than I expected, with a strong wind with a bit of a bite.  But certainly not as cold as those temperatures you have quoted.  Needed some heating on for OH and I needed a thicker sweater.

Today, warmth in the air and some occasional sunshine.

That's strange. We're under 20 km from Carcassonne airport as the crow flies, and at almost the same altitude, but the minimum temperature shown by our recording thermometer did not drop below 20 °C in the last few days, even though there are occasional patches of snow on the ~1200m mountain to our north.

Our thermometer is in a shaded position on the outside of a well insulated, double brick wall, so is not affected by temperatures inside the house.

Maybe the temperature in Carcassonne mentioned in this Huffington Post article was measured near the river, which brings cold water from the Pyrenees, or took the wind factor into account, but that is a huge difference.

30 mins from Carca and Beziers here (bewteen the two!) in a small village, at 10am it was reading 14 in the car (which is in an enclosed space, with the sun arriving), but it was much crisper than that once en route to Homps, where the wind blew along the canal as it always does.  Everyone arriving for church said it was "cold today".  By contract, yesterday, at roughly the same time, the car read 16, but as there was no wind, it actually felt much better, and yes, it seems that for the moment the cold snap has passed over.  But the whole of the last week or so has been much colder than usual mornings and evening .. even I had to resort to heating for a couple of nights!
