Chrissie
Was getting geared up for doing tax return online as usual, and someone just told me that UK rental income (which I will be declaring for the first time this year) cannot be declared online as the system is "only geared up for French rental income." When she tried last year the computer kept throwng a fit and she ended up having to go in to the tax office to straighten it all out.Can this be right? I'm sure someone out there will re-assure me?......[8-)]Chrissie (81)

For UK rents you need to get up the "declaration annex" 2047 and enter in section VII ,then enter on 2042 box TI.

Chrissie
Thanks, Parsnips - that's brilliant. I was sure it must be possible somehow.Chrissie (81)
Patf
I'm probably missing the point here, but this happened to me filling the BRITISH tax forms online, entering UK rental income. It refused to accept when I used our french address.I got round it in the end.
Hereford
You probably got round it the way we do - by putting in the post code of the rental property in the UK (in our case not a house but a very small office building). You have to use a valid UK postcode in order to file online. If you then leave the box labelled "have you changed the address unticked it all works fine.In theory you cannot file "online" at all if you live abroad but the tax offices themselves are quite happy as I have spoken to several. They tried to get me to use a repayment claim form by post - which I refuse to do as the repayment will not be dealt with for months (I am a chartered accountant so understand the system). We filled in our UK returns on 7th and will probably have cash in the bank by Tuesday.Mrs H
