New doble glazing - tax allowance

Correct.  Conditions are that the installation must be supplied and fitted by an artisan + the quality must be to a certain standard (but I guess that anything you could buy would be.)

The rebate is 25% of the cost of materials (say 80% of the total cost of the work).  Get your supplier to give you an invoice showing this number - they will be accustomed to doing this.  The rebate increases to 40% if the house was built before 1977 and you are carrying out the work within 2 yrs of acquiring the property.

You enter the figure in '7WH' (or '7WG' if it's a claim for 40%) on your tax return, whether online or on paper. Obviously, the claim is for the year in which the work is done, so provided it's invoiced by the end of 2010, it's for next year's return.

I did it online and provided no documentary proof, but expect to have to supply it if asked. I wasn't.

BTW, if your tax bill is (say) €1000, and the rebate you are claiming is €1500 (for €6000) of materials, then you'll get €500 back from the nice taxman (or lady!)

Fell at the first hurdle!  Well there, you go.

I guess that it goes to show that sometimes it pays to have the job done by an artisan if you get an effective 20% off the price (25% of 80%).

I'm there at the moment: chauffe eau bought (from L-R) & installed by me 18 months ago. Now, after leaks from my amateurish installation) knackered.  In the process of having the whole thing changed, meanwhile OH less than ecstatic with no hot water since Sat. [+o(]

Just to echo Gardian's advice there; it can pay to have the job done by an artisan, (supplied and fitted), especially if the 5.5% TVA is applicable; Often there is not very much difference in buying the materials yourself with 19.6% TVA and paying a friend, as opposed to having the whole job done with guarantees covering the work, and that's before the tax credits are taken in account.
