Un autre Gallois
Hi - I thought I would be able to bring some good news about this but my local Impots office seems to have changed its stance after saying it would be allowable - entry to be made in box 6GU ON FORM 2042K. They asked for "justificatifs" which I have provided by way of invoices & copy agreement & uk bank cheque stubs. They now say that payment has to be made from a French bank account, notwithstanding all my income is paid in sterling!! I wonder if anyone else has experience of this.UaGallois
Bob T
I may sound a bit offensive here, it is not meant that way, but why should the French tax system support your parents in the UK?Does that mean I should get a French tax rebate for sending money for my son in the UK? I would not have the cheek to ask for any.
woolybanana
If you were supporting elderly folks in France, would it be ok?
Clair
As it is law in France that children should support their parents in need, there can be no discrimination as to the nationality of the supporting resident, should there?

BJSLIV
This "expert" article suggests that payments for the care of a parent living abroad are deductible http://www.dossierfamilial.com/questions-a-l-expert/argent/pension-alimentaire-a-des-ressortissants-etrangers-dans-quels-cas-puis-je-les-deduire-de-mes-impots,1186 But would be taxable, where appropriate, in the UK. Un autre Gallois
Hi - I've been taking advantage of a Ryanair cheappy at 24€ return for two from Gerona to Palma, so am a little late in responding to this thread which I started! I don't take offence to Bob T's comment, but I just wonder why legal tax reduction should cause such a comment to be made. Avoidance is legal, evasion is illegal, so I see no problem whatsoever. I don't make the rules; I try to abide by them. Why should I be selective - the fisc certainly are not. Thanks BJSLIV & Clair for the confirmation - I just have to persuade the fisc. that invoices & third party agreements with the local authority are sufficien "justificatifs". After all they originally confirmed the eligibility of this to be treated as a deduction. UaG
