Pommier
Looking at the back of our Taxe d'Habitation bill, it appears to say that for 2 people the ceiling for exoneration is an RFR of €15150. Our RFR is well below that, but there doesn't appear to be any reduction in the bill. We bought the house Sept 2009 but didn't move in until 23.1.2010 when we completed on the sale of our last house (for which we've paid TdH already for this year). Can anyone advise please? andyh4
I think any reduction is dependent on having submitted a French tax declaration - and from your arrival date you haven't
Pommier
Yes, we've submitted tax returns every year, but in January we moved from one French address to another one.
idun
But do you fulfill the other criteria too to be exonerated from paying? They should be indicated on the back of your bill.

Pommier
Definately out for exoneration, but what I'm trying to understand (but can't!) is the 'Abattements pour l'habitation principale'.I thought (probably wrongly!) that there was some sort of reduction if your RFR wasn't very much and the TdH was quite high. Have I imagined it, or was that maybe for TF?

BJSLIV
I think your problem is that your current house was a Maison Secondaire on 1st January, as you had received the abatement on the old house. You only get one reduction.
Pommier
I think that's it. How annoying as the TdH at the old house was only ever low as it was a much smaller house in not such a good area. Somehow (!) we always seem to complete on selling in January! Thanks for the help anyhow.
