pachapapa
If resident in the house on 1st Jan 2010 you pay the Taxe de Habitation for the whole year; idem for the Taxe Foncière unless provision for pro rata sharing is included in the Acte de Vente which appears not to be the case. Alan Zoff
As Papa said, you need to look very carefully at the sale contract. It worked the other way for me when I bought a few days into January - the vendor kindly paid the first year's tax! idun
Kindly AZ? It was afterall, their bill to pay. I was quite prepared to pay for the full year when we sold, but without being asked the notaire had split it between us, so we only paid for just about the time we owned the property based on the previous years bill. idun
But, both bills have the same responsibilities attached to them. The only thing is that sometimes when selling, the fonciere gets 'shared'. The tax d'hab is always the responsibility of the person in the property on the 1st of Jan though.
