Patf
Just a moan and a warning:Having spent hours last year arranging for my british OAP to be taxed in France (and I did finally get a refund) my tax code for this coming year has been reduced again. They have gone back to adding my OAP onto my other pension so I'm being taxed twice - in France and in the UK.Seems the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing - too many different tax offices.Just tried to ring them but it's closed - watching the telly I suppose. In real terms, now my monthly income has been reduced by nearly £100. Hopefully I should get it back, but in the meanwhile, all those phone calls and letters. So look out - check your tax code.
idun
Government depts, France or UK, some are good and helpful and others; grrrrrr they are arrogant, inefficient and the qualifications to work there are probably to be rather obtuse and completely lacking in imagination and common sense. Can you tell I am having problems too, not the same as yours, at least someone is paying you some money to rob you of. AnOther
Not saying you Patf but some people seem to believe that an NT code is for life and that they never have to speak to HMRC again. Whilst this may be true for some if your your UK income changes for any reason then it is up to you to tell HMRC so that they can review and adjust your code if necessary.Hopefully your present situation won't be as difficult to sort out as it was initially because you are now established as a French tax payer. parsnips
Hi, I have just had my UK tax code, INCORRECT, for the second year following , despite being french resident for 18 years and completing (and having correctly processed--eventually--) France Individual for state pension; it has again been wrongly set against my fire service pension. I have found -by repeated experience- that the best way to get action is to email non-residents@hmrc.gov.uk , and you will at least get a prompt acknowledgement , along with a case number, and a (not necessarily reliable ) promise to contact you within 3 weeks. It's a waste of time contacting your PAYE office as they are sent the code by the non-res dept.
Patf
So I'm not alone - thanks for the replies. My other pension is a local govt.one, so taxed in the UK.I'll try that email address, parsnips.
Mikep
I dealt with the non-residents section at HMRC (St John's House, Bootle) 18 months back when I started to receive a couple of pensions, and found them satisfactory. It took a few weeks, but I started early so was only taxed in UK for a couple of months. When I asked for the refund it was paid within weeks. In both cases I contacted them by letter - might be better than phone/email?My NT coding now seems to roll on with no problem.
