golfer
We moved out of our French house on 3rd Nov 2010 and two months later received a bill dated Nov 2nd sent to our c/o UK address. I wrote to them and explained that we no longer lived in France and I enclosed the attestation for the sale of the house. We have now received what I think is the equivalent of a red demand! Is the bill for the dustmen collected in advance or at the end of the session? We no longer have a French bank account which would make it difficult to pay if we do in fact owe the money. We lived in Dept 86.Thank you.
idun
The bill for 2010 will have arrived in late 2010 and so you will have to pay it. These bills in France are usually annual and go from the 1st of January and who so ever lives/owns a property have to pay the appropriate bills for that property for the full year.Any negociating with the new people in the property is a private matter. ps don't forget to do your french income tax declaration for 2010 too. golfer
Thanks idun. Didn't know that about dustmen bill but we do know that we have to fill in our tax return. Does anybody know how we can pay the dustmen as we don't have a French bank account now?

idun
Contact the people you owe the bill too and get all their payment details, IBAN, SWIFT, releve de compte etc. And then you can transfer this money to them via your UK bank account, or maybe an FX company (properly registered one)I think that this is going to be an expensive way to do it. You'll probably regret having closed your french bank account.
golfer
Thanks idun. I agree an expensive way of doing it but we didn't realise we would still be getting bills after 7 months. We didn't close the account until the beginning of March!
