Gardian
Amongst all the (understandable) gloom & doom, we bought our first asparagus of the season yesterday. It was allegedly local, a bit pricey (€7 for a 500 gm boite), but lovely nonetheless. Have had better stuff, but hey, it was nice to get out if the ‘winter soup’ routine. It’ll do for 3 lunches. We do our our’s in the steamer for 8-9 mins, then plated with butter, coarse salt and parmesan shavings. Plus bread of course !

NormanH
There was asparagus and the first local strawberries from Capestang (NOT watery Spanish) but at 6.50 a barquette in the indoor market on Friday. Apparently they have been brought on early by all the sunshine, though we are paying for it today as you can see on another thread...
Gardian
Yes, the early local strawberries are really nice. Around here, the variety we see is the Garriguette, which sweet but also a bit sharp if that doesn’t sound too contradictory.
Lori
Yes, lovely fresh asparagus in the market yesterday. Either white or green could be had for 10€ a kilo or 5€ for a botte of 500 grams. Strawberries also, but a bit too steep for me.
