Avis d'Impot

Recommended Posts

With much trepidation I completed a first French Tax return in May this year fully expecting the Impots to come back and tell me that I had got it all wrong!

Thanks to the guide on this Forum and plenty of advice, especially on the new system of declaring income from Government pensions, all seems to have passed the scrutiny of the Impots!!

I am amazed upon receiving the Avis d'impots this morning to learn that I do not owe them anything for 2010..........oh,perhaps I did do something wrong!!!!!

This posting is to thank all those who have contributed in whatever way to making life a bit easier for us thicko's!

Well, coincidentally I checked mine online today.

Some of you will be aware that I have some understanding of the French Tax system and was awaiting my assessment with some interest. BTW, in the absence of any alternative direction from the Impots, I completed my return in the 'old way'. I had a pretty good idea what to expect whichever way it was calculated.

Answer on the website = zero !!!

It can't be right - something's gone **** up.  Don't celebrate too soon Ceejay.

I have been doing them for 16 years...

My advice if it  says zero don't stir[:)]

You may want to put aside what you think it should be  or a while, but wait for them.

On the other hand if they have clearly left off something ( often my UK income doesn't appear as a result of a glitch in the online declaration) I email them ti point it out so that they can't say I have been cheating.

It has been known for them to send an emended avis, but it has also been known for them not to bother...

This morning I received the formal Avis in the post and much as I was beginning to suspect, they haven't taken account of OH's (UK taxed) earnings.

The good news is that the printed copy of my online return clearly shows my  Form 2047 declaration of it, so there can be no suggestion of dodgy practice!  I'm going to give it a few days till I'm next in town, pop in to the Impots and lighten their day. They'll probably die of shock at somebody in France actually telling them that they've been under-taxed.

There's clearly a software problem of some sort, unless of course they hand-crank any assessments like this, in which case it's purely human error. Given the other posts on the subject, I rather suspect the former, but you'd think that the system would throw up a query if somebody's RFR more or less halves from one year to the next, wouldn't you?

Hi,

This happened to me a couple of years back. As I had correctly declared (online) and had a receipt, I did nothing , and although I never usually have to pay any income tax, that year I did not get a tax d'hab demand either; I queried that with the tresor and they wrote with a copy of the nil assessment. I take the view that provided I declare correctly, it's not for me to tell them what to do with the figures. I fully expected them to pick up the mistake , but they didn't--the next year it was back to normal.

Exactly what i was talking about above. There is a glitch in the online declaration which often forgets to count the UK part even though it is clearly shown as having been declared.

As I said in this situation I emailed them just to cover myself.

Yes Norman, but software doesn't have 'glitches that forget': they've probably been messing around with the programs, which wouldn't be surprising from year to year. This bit wasn't tested well enough.[:D]
