anotherbanana
A couple in Southern France have won damages over ‘illness’ caused by wind farms near their home. Sounds like a good wheeze for some. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/nov/08/french-couple-wins-legal-fight-wind-turbine-syndrome-windfarm-health
NormanH
More wheeze than disease.... "Doctors failed to find any health problem, but a court expert said turbine syndrome had been previously identified by scientific research. However, an Australian study found sickness attributed to wind turbines is more likely to have been caused by people getting alarmed at the health warnings circulated by activists."
Gluestick
Hmm... I am not so sure, Norman. Photo-Effects (Light being interrupted at a stable frequency) are similar to helicopters going into land, one above the other when a bright landing light, flickering trough the rotor of the chopper beneath caused hypnotism and fatal crashes. Typical stroboscopic effect: could cause Migraines, epileptic fits etc. Various sound frequencies can be unpleasant harmonics when added together. Perhaps worth remembering that health dangers posed by radiation from early CRT monitors was pooh poohed at first, until Swedish studies proved the dangers, particularly to pregnant women. Early high powered radar was not considered a health risk (Naval vessels etc) until it was found to be very dangerous. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3653647/ https://ehjournal.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1476-069X-10-7 Large turbines can also cause air pressure changes and waves. In the 1960s, air pollution from internal combustion engines was not seen as a health problem!

Harnser
In our commune - fortunately not near us, we can just about see the red obstruction light on top of one of them in the distance. "Declared illegal since 2009, and after a veritable legal soap opera, three wind turbines must be dismantled at a place called Nizio, in Guern, near Pontivy (Morbihan). The operators were still trying to play for time with the Council of State which, on December 30, 2021, reiterated its decision requiring the dismantling of these disputed installations" https://www.ouest-france.fr/bretagne/morbihan/justice-dans-l-illegalite-depuis-plus-de-douze-ans-un-parc-eolien-du-morbihan-doit-etre-demonte-186a9296-6a56-11ec-b759-e96b51f23ee5 https://www.letelegramme.fr/morbihan/guern/eoliennes-de-guern-le-prefet-du-morbihan-ordonne-leur-demantelement-10-01-2022-12902539.php
Harnser
The edit time window strikes again. The removal will include removing the huge concrete foundation substructures. It's in a sensitive ecological area near a tiny watercourse which is one of the last few habitats of the freshwater pearl mussel, so the removal works will be under an official microscope. That is going to cost the operators megabucks.
