Yep, saw that in the news yesterday.  Have to remind self to get snow chains on next outing.

Yes, but only if you’re heading for somewhere like the Alps.

There’s nowhere near you where they’re needed.

Thanks for the link which gives an absolutely clear explanation. I forgot to bring our chains but we are not in or near any affected zone.

  Interesting to find one of the abbreviations comes from the English language. I.e.   “3PMSF” (3 Peak Mountain Snow Flake)

There are some 'border' areas where the requirement can vary. I had a flat in a part of the Ariège that  rarely saw snow, but was only 30 minutes from ski slopes...

It is absolutely tipping it down here. Cars are sliding all over the place.
