Clair
I don't know how far these are, but you could try Emmaüs:http://www.emmaus-france.org/contacts/departements[...]
tweenie
how about any local schools. They always need help with school swimming sessions, you have to take an easy swim exam though. It's always worth enquiring and it really improves your french speaking with the children and teachers. I help 2 local schools and really enjoy it. Jotty
Why not take part in some of your local associations?http://chefboutonne.free.fr/pagesrubriques_htm/associations/ASSOCIATIONS.htm
5-element
Mooky, you might be able to join Restos du Coeur for their winter campaign - there are many branches, sometimes in small places - even if they don't provide cooked meals, many of those distribute food like the one in my small town. The winter campaign usually starts in October and finishes in March. Many volunteers work just 2 mornings a week (it can be physically hard work, in unheated warehouses)I find the volunteers for Restos du Coeur often interesting people too. If you enrol for food distribution, you will also be in contact with beneficiaries.http://www.restosducoeur.org/index.phpAnd how about Secours Populaire? They are pretty good to work with/for, as well.http://www.secourspopulaire.fr/
Maricopa
MookyI have no idea how old you are, but if you are under 55 and still fit, you could always try the pompiers in your area, they are generally short of volunteers with time to spare during the working day.M
Frenchie
Les restos du coeur, the Pompiers , le secours populaire, all good ideas..It seems you love animals , why not try a local " refuge", some need volunteers to walk the dogs or stroke the cats !!
