James2
We can nolonger fly from Bristol to Bergerac by Ryanair during the winter, so its with Easyjet to Bordeaux from Bristol.Anyone know where long term parking is at Merignac Airport or even a cheap garage rental, nearby would be great as I have a car I use while we are in France? James2
Thanks for the thread, but I am looking to park the car for periods of 3months or more , so costs are a problem with weekly rates.

Pickles
Any information on Bergerac airport closing down because of deficit & opening of Brive June 2010?
Since quite a bit of money has recently been invested there, that does not sound likely. What's your source? There's an interesting article at:http://www.sudouest.com/dordogne/actualite/article/763341/mil/5336960.htmlRegardsPickles
Tony F Dordogne
Not sure where you got that from Andrew, sounds very mis/ill informed as there's a lot in the French and Brit papers in the SW explaining the new routes etc at Bergerac. Andrew
Bad news for Bergerac (?) on: http://www.sudouest.com/dordogne/actualite/article/763341/mil/5336960.htmlhttp://www.sudouest.com/dordogne/actualite/forums.html?view=single_thread&cat_uid=50&conf_uid=291&thread_uid=1188http://www.danielgarrigue.com/blog/archives/2009/03/entry_94.htmlhttp://verts-bergerac.over-blog.com/article-25770422.htmlhttp://www.ledemocratedebergerac.fr/actualite/Conseil-municipal--Aeroport-de-Roumanieres-:-Cout-a-geometrie-variable-257.htmlhttp://terrasson.evous.fr/La-Dordogne-sollicitee-pour-l,367.html

The first article gives a good account of what is going on and notes that the contract with Ryanair (accounting for 75% of current business) has been renewed for a further 5 years - (yes I know, for whatever that guarantee is worth). I really don't think that Bergerac has any more problems than any other small French regional airport, and indeed has more traffic than many. Amongst the airports that I know better than Bergerac, you could tell pretty much the same story of Pau/Carcassonne/Perpignan/Beziers/Nimes/Montpellier/Metz-Nancy, which all have significant issues - especially with regards to deficits. All represent significant sunk costs: in all cases there are arguments going on over who should be footing the bill.RegardsPickles
Andrew
...as long as the French can pay, no problem indeed.
shropshirelass
HiThere is a special price for long term parking at Merignac now and I picked up the information on it during the summer. Sadly we left the house yesterday and the information is there and I just can't remember what the deals were. There is a telephone number for the car parks department and they can explain it to you there. I don't know why they don't just put the details on the website but maybe one day they will get round to it. Good luck.Car Parks Department+335 56 34 50 73. Andrew
Bergerac Airport closing down (so they say)? Let's fly Bordeaux !http://www.aqui.fr/tempsforts/easyjet-propose-deux-nouvelles-destinations-au-depart-de-bordeaux,2674.html
Cat
Andrew, who is "they" that say Bergerac is to close? You have been asked before to provide a link to a source that can back up your claim. I have seen no evidence of any truth in the rumour that you seem to be determined to start. You're not employed by Bordeaux airport, by any chance [;-)]
BJSLIV
I don't think that the airport is going to close it's just that they, like Poitiers and others, are currently under pressure from Ryanair. In essence "Increase the money you currently pay to us or we will pull out"...........http://blog.charentelibre.com/journal/index.php?post/2009/12/12/4368-le-non-au-chantage-de-ryanair

Hoddy
Thanks for that Mareille, I spent ages trying to find it and, having failed, thought it must be that my French was inadequate.Hoddy
BJSLIV
Whether you ask in English or in French, its unlikely that anyone will reveal the airport's strategy with regard to Ryanair's demand for more money. The negotiations will continue and eventually we will find out if Ryanair will stay or pull out. Théière
Agreed BJSLIV, it's just from Andrews postings it sounds like a done deal, all decided, immanent. If it is just at the negotiation stage then it's just an alarmist post and not worth the paper it's not written on
