If you require your land surveyed (like to have a house built or find your boundery) and are within a 30km radius of Quillan may I strongly recommend that you ask to see the surveyors qualifications and insurance before employing them. Likewise you would be best advised to ask for a Divi and for their SIRET number. Don't forget that if the said person happens to claim they are UK qualified (which is highly unlikely) it does not count over here. You could make a nasty and expensive mistake if you don't take these precautions.

Please don't ask me who this person may or may not be as I won't say even in an email or PM but if you ask the questions that I have suggested you will find out quite quickly if they are kosha. Don't forget without a SIRET number and a Divi (signed by both of you) no building or maintanance work will carry a warranty and may not be covered by your building insurance.

If you want your land surveyed to establish  bounderies you go to the local Géometres-experts (www.pagesjaunes.fr). They are the only people with the authority to install the orange boundary markers.

If you are buying land the vendors should pay for this service (it is quite expensive).

NEVER use any UK surveyor french registered or otherwise for this !!

Quillie, normally I agree with everything you say - well nearly everything. But in this case I want you to know that everyone can do a pretty good job of surveying their land armed with the following: 1. A long piece of string (some people use rope), a large saucer full of water - to provide a level, and several large cane sticks to take 'site lines'. I can supply full details of the method on request. It's yet to be patented.

I did a survey with an ex policemen of the land on which Margate Hospital now stands with little more than this after I broke the dumpy level one morning in 19***! I'm looking forward to seeing you and Pat soon (April), and if you have any urgent surveying left to do, just get the saucer and string our ready!

To coin a phrase, I am actually 'here in France', (but I'll be back in the U'K' Outcast before you get the chance to respond).
