Tax on money tranfers to France.

I do too Gardian. I heard something towards the end of last

year that from the 1st Jan 2013 Mr Hollande would tax money transfers from

abroad. Something to do with topping up the economy. Might also be something to

do with the French ministers hiding their hard earned cash in overseas

accounts. Hence…telling the tax man about overseas accounts. I need to go to my

bank this week so I will ask and inform the group.

Hi,

You may have heard that there is a new obligation on banks to tell the fisc about virements over (I think) 2000€ -this is about money-laundering and not with the intention of taxing the capital transferred, which would be extremely draconian- (although Cyprus has set a precedent).

If you are transferring from the UK, well, it is in the EU and classed as such, so there should be no charge. Now if the UK leave, who knows.

When I first started transferring money to the UK on a regular basis, my french conseillere told me that the charge would be the same as a eurozone transfer, that is how she explained it and now they don't charge me at all. And if a french bank believes that the £ is 'in', as that is the actual term she used, in english 'in', then how could they charge within the eurozone????[Www]

Ofcourse she could have been telling me a load of rubbish, but being charged next to nothing suited me and I don't even get charged these days for our regular transfers.
