woodsy
Two days ago, I received a visit from a 'man from France Telecom' who asked to enter my home (near Villedieu) to test the line. While checking the phones he had a good look around, and to add to my suspicions the FT logo etc on the side of his van didn't look quite right. Although he spoke in French he had an English-type accent and plenty of errors. He asked if I had the keys to a neighbouring British-owned property so that he could also test the line there. When he left, I phoned FT, who denied all knowledge of such a caller in the area, and that I should have asked to see his 'Carte Professionelle'. I also phoned the Gendarmes, and they were adamant that all such callers (EDF etc) must be able to produce such a card before entering a home. If they can't, then you may refuse admission. The Gendarmes will be watching out for the bogus FT man/van, but do beware, as he seems to be trying to get into British homes, he is possibly British, he has light coloured hair, aged about 40 and was even wearing a pullover with FT logo! Val_2
You can buy their old vans and many still have a faint FT logo on them which would be easy to re-paint and use again. They don't need to get into a house to test a phone line, they do it at the centre where you ring in or outside at the main boxes. Trouble is,some poor fool is going to be taken if they don't understand much french and can't spot a fake french accent. This isn't our old friend Mr.Domble again is it in a new guise who ripped of many in Brittany two years ago with a pack of lies.
