The builders are (thank God!) progressing quite well with my renovation and soon, I'll be looking to furnish my house in 76 (half way between Dieppe and Rouen).

I'm on a budget so buying new is pretty much out of the question. I looking for the basics: beds, chest of drawers, bedside tables that sort of thing.

Can anyone recommend somewhere?

Is there are French equivalent of Ad Trader (used to be called Free Ads)?

Stephen.

Have you tried Emmaus (spelling ?) its a charity and sells furniture here in the UK. But they also have out lets in Normandy and all over France. A search on Google would help you find the most nearest one to you in France.

Try www.paruvendu.fr It is not free ads, but people do seem to use it in the same way as one might advertise in a local paper. You should also beable to get a paper copy.

Emmaus is a good idea, it is actually French!!!!! founded by l'abbé Pierre, the funds go to help homeless people.

If you are anywhere near Forges-les-Eaux (which is where we are), we buy a lot of stuff from the depot-vente opposite the casino. They have a lot of semi-expensive antiques in the main window, but a large room at the back with old wardrobes, chests of drawers etc). It's kind of hit and miss, sometimes we go in and there is loads of stuff we like, and at other times not...

They also often have very nice old garden furniture.

Thanks everyone for the tips.

Turns out there is an Emmaus in Rouen, so next time I down there I'll have a look. Also Forges-les-Eaux is quite close (I'm near Neufchatel-en-Bray) so I'll check out the depot-vente.

Stephen.
