mint
A bit of background, so please bear with me.I have been trying to pay a German company (with a French arm) for something I want to buy on-line.Tried Nationwide credit card to begin with cos' that's free. No joy. Rang Nationwide, told that fraud was suspected and that they would take the block off my card and I would be able to pay.Went back to the German company, still unable to pay. Meanwhile emails and phone calls flying back and forth. I am now p****d off to the eyebrows.Set up a Paypal account, card again not accepted.Don't want to pay by Nationwide debit card on account of the cost (payment in euros) and now think I will try and pay via our Banque Postale CB.Does anyone know if that costs anything and, if so, how much? Thanks. Clair
You should be able to do a bank transfer (SEPA = Single Euro Payments Area) and as long as it's within the Eurozone, the charge is the same as a French transfer.According to a 2011 tariff leaflet, it was 3.30€ at the counter, but free online, though I cannot find any details on cost on their site.Ensure you have both the IBAN and the BIC for the recipient.Edited for *&%$?#! Pommier
I paid a bill last week by virement from my BP account (to the Trésor Public, so within France) and was told it was free. I'll complain if they charge me!

Could this be the case for transfers too?[I]

crabtree
I used 'Virement' to pay a German company earlier this year, using La Banque Postale Online. There was no charge.
mint
Thank you, crabtree, will remember that for future occasions. In the end, I got through to someone with commonsense in Nationwide (yes, they do exist though they are few and far between). He asked his "senior" and came back to say they will allow this one purchase through and then the card is blocked until they send me a replacement because this one has been "compromised".Seems that every time I try and pay some company on-line that is based in another country, my card has been "compromised" and is blocked until I speak to them. Can't actually complain although it's a real pain as this is becoming a regular occurrence because after all, I can't say, you numpties, it's me trying to use my own money to buy something, OK? Because I suppose their intention is good..........gggrrrggghhh!
