We ate at the Auberge du Moulin at Brouins last night (excellent food and good value as always, charming service) but were dismayed to see a notice that the present patron is leaving on September 1st. It seems that he is off to central France. The waiter didn't seem to know much about the new owners - he and his colleague are leaving (which is a shame as they are both great fun).

Does anyone have any more info? I hope that the present high standards are maintained.

And were any of you among the many English people there last night?

No, the one at Cuves, not far from St Pois, is the Moulin de Jean (founded by J-C Novelli).

This one is between Sourdeval and Cherence-le-Roussel in the Brouains valley (River See) next to the Ecomusee.

We have eaten there many times (in fact Judie sold a house belonging to the owners to some Dutch people, the immediate area being very popular with the Dutch). We did have a rather indifferent meal once when the usual chef was off, and some other friends who have a holiday home nearby and are quite foodie don't reckon it much - though apart from that one occasion we've always found it excellent.
