Taxes Foncieres 2005

Recommended Posts

Is it the rate that has increased or have they reassessed the value of your property?

If the basic chargeable value of your property is roughly the the same as last year, it isn't at all  uncommon for the a particular town's  taxes to increase dramatically in one year. A much greater proportion of communes expenditure is raised locally than in the UK, and there is no concept of "Rate Capping" from the centre.

There are regular stories in the French media about how a mayor's pet project will be costing  the villagers increased taxes for years and years to come.

So look take a look around for a new sports hall, street lighting, or rebuilt Mairie.....

It not too bad if the tax is already low, but from memory some people were complaining last year that their taxes had increased from something like 1000 euros to over 2000 euros, which can be somewhat unpleasant when it has to be paid the following month!

Hello,

We have been in Vigeois for nearly 3 years now, and ours has always been just over 300 euros. We received our last bill last November, and dont expect the next one till November 2005. Have you spoken to the Maire, no one else has mentioned it, but I will ask in the village tomorrow. When did you receive the bill?

Hi Everyone

Thanks for the information.  We received our bill about two weeks ago.  Still no wiser as to why it has increased so much.  As our French is not very good we would find it difficult trying to get any information if we tried to speak to anyone.  Might put something in writing and see what comes of it!  Otherwise I think it might be a case of searching down the side of the sofa for any spare cash!!

Regards, Liz and Terry

Dave & Eileen, I think you may be getting your tax foncieres and tax d'habitation mixed up.

Tax Foncieres comes out around beginning of Sept pay by Oct, Tax d'habitation comes in Nov pay by Dec.

In our part of Indre Tax Fonciere has risen from 124 euros to 129 euros.
Dave & Eileen Have you compared this years bill with last years to see whether it is the valuation of your property or the rate of tax that has increased?
Hello,

It wasnt us that made the original enquiry, I just replied and said that ours had been more or less the same since we came here. We haven`t received this years bill yet so I dont know whether its up, or whether the house has been revalued.
