flower
Hi all,We have lived in the Haute-Vienne for a couple of years now and are thinking of having a new house built. We are in the early stages of researching the idea but would really like to find out more about having a timber frame house. Is there anyone else out there who has already had such a home built, in or around the Limousin area. We have lots of brochures but we would really love to perhaps meet up with someone who has already done it to take a look and pick brains etc - we will happily take those kind people out to dinner by way of thank you. Thanks in advance if anyone can help. adrianpmills
Just a timber frame - or all timber, a log house? There's one of the latter kind being built by an english couple just down the road from us. If interested, drop me a line. Adrian (Haute Vienne nr St Leonard de Noblat. Penny29
If you were interested in a timber framed, straw bale insulated ecologically friendly houses we know a French artisan (who speaks fluent English) who builds them from scratch to whatever stage of completion you want. He has a show house in the Excideuil area. PM me if you want further details.

Mpprh
HiThere is some information here : http://www.the-languedoc-page.com/articles/languedoc-articles41.htmI've lived in two timber framed houses - one faced with brick, one faced with timber. Both were no problem and had very good insulation.Just worth saying that virtually all houses in Scandinavia are timber framed and clad : Peter
flower
Thanks to all so far with your replies. We would like a timber frame house with a brick skin as we still prefer the look of a traditionnal style house. Penny, I'll send you a pm as it might be good for us to see the show home you mention. Thanks again for info and web-links.
Paris
The log house being built near St Leonard must be the house our friends are having constructed - in July they said work would start on it shortly. They have lived and worked in the area for about 14 years now and he is, himself an excellent builder, renovater, etc. A firm of specialists are, however, constructing all external walls, etc. We will be down that way in December for a few days, so may pop round to see what is happening.Julia, in england
flower
Hi Julia and thanks for info. If it is a log house as opposed to just a timber frame, then it might not be quite what we're after but would be interesting to hear how the work is progressing. Thanks again
adrianpmills
I think the house Julia referred to is the one in our hamlet. It is progressing well - the windows and doors went in today. The roof is almost ready for tiling. It looks great - very suitable for its forested location.
