Earnings from a hobby

Quote from a recent question re gîte income in gîte section:

"When we stated that we earned less than €23k per year and should still be on the 'non-professionnel' regime..."

A friend has asked if we know what the limits are for income from a hobby (will be pretty small). She is sure she read in a previous year's Tax form notes that one could just pay 13% on them and no other tax etc. without formally registering it as a business.    Is this what the poster above is referring to please?  She would certainly earn a lot less than 23,000 and does not want to register a business unless vital, not even AE as she is not dependent on it for Health Cover.

I cannot find anything in the notes but may well be missing something, almost certainly am.

Many thanks for any info.

Pretty small, 23000€ is way over what a full time smicard earns in France per year, so the top figure for many people will not be 'small'.

I would hope that the figure would be way below that limit to not have to pay into the system and look forward to someone saying how much it is.

I thought that was one of the original purposes of auto entrepreneur - to give people a way of registering their hobby businesses. I didn't know there was anything outside of rentals/tourism that you can do as a sideline and simply declare the income without registering as a business.

For B&Bs the amount isn't the only factor, one of the main criteria is that you have to have another source of earned income and the B&B income has to account for less than a certain proportion.
