Has anyone else had problems with the IBAN/SEPA changeover ?

To cut a very long and very angry story short, my OH's email has been cut off by Orange. We still have the ordinary internet account.

Their explanation is that when the IBAN/SEPA changeover took place some banks wouldn't automatically use existing direct debts and so OH's email has been suspended.

My OH is fuming and neither of us can understand what is going on.

Other than massive Orange inefficiency is there a sensible explanation for this ?

I suspect ANYTHING to do with the Orange administration. I had reasonable service from the technical side, but the office and billing was horrendous.

I can't understand why an email would be cut off if the Internet account is still working..

I have few prélèvements except for my mobile phone as the amounts vary so much, but that one changed over smoothly with Crédit Agricôle. I have explained my reasons for this at length elsewhere. I prefer virements as I have control over them and save in a separate account for standard bills.

A friend had to sign a confirmation for the new SEPA with Banque Populaire.

I transferred money about a week ago from my french bank via the SEPA IBAN system and everthing was OK.

WHAT has SEPA to do with an email address, I don't get it.

Still no matter which company gives me internet access, I NEVER use their email, I have had the same basic email account since 1999 and changed internet access companies loadsa times since then. I remember BT telling me I had to use their email service and I had to look at it, which I never did. The service I personally had from BT was DIRE from wrong billing to inefficiency and I'm with the Phone Coop now, who are, I have to say excellent. You can even call and know the name of the person you want to speak to and speak to them.

Yes, had problems with SFR from January 2014 till I cancelled my contract with them last month. Each month they would inform me that my prelevement payment had been rejected by the bank, but the bank claimed SFR weren't formulating the request correctly. In effect, each blamed the other - it certainly wasn't anything I had done/not done - and each month I was forced to pay by bank card. Eventually I decided to sign up with SOSH instead (or Orange, by any other name!) - I did think it may be a case of out of the frying pan into the fire! Been waiting over two weeks already for my phone to be connected ...

Surely, though, if your OH's email has been suspended, they sent you some sort of warning or reminder beforehand to inform you that the bill wasn't being paid ??
