Loiseau
The trees on the roof of an incomplete-looking house I have seen in the Vendee; it's an indication that the house is "hors d'eau" (watertight) or something I think, and probably releases a significant chunk of the owner's money to the builder!A tree or two beside an entranceway alongside the road indicates that a wedding is taking/has taken place there. They should be evergreen (they are called a "houx", or holly), and decorated with paper flowers - though sadly this has degenerated into festoons of pastel-coloured loo paper nowadays. And on a trip to the Dordogne a year or two back, I also noticed the ones outside houses and business premises that said "Honneur to XXX [NAME]". I assume they are congratulating somebody on a job of some sort, well done...AngelaEDITJust found a reference to "les houx" with pix on http://cacaille.chez-alice.fr/Photos_Mariage_laetitia_et_aurelien.html(note the loo paper!)
