Rose
I've always wondered why the french count in such an odd way... no offence intended of course... but the 4-20 (80) and 4-20-10 (90) and so on has always bemused me... But... tonight... whilst chatting to my son about ages I said to him how nice it would be if I managed to live four score years and ten... [blink]... and then I stopped and thought... well there you go, we do it in English too!!!! only problem is now I'd like to know a bit more... anyone got any ideas on the history of this...[8-)]thanks [:)]
Llantony
Three score and ten was traditional - but I guess we're living longer on average
Pierre ZFP
Well the Bible says (and I paraphrase)'The span of a man's years shall be 3 score and ten'but then the next verse goes on to say'Or 4 score if ye be strong' Why does nobody ever remember the second verse?
