According to Midi Libre:

The French Government are introducing the following measures:

The maximum payment that you are allowed to make in cash will be reduced from 3000€ to 1000€ for people who live in France.

For non-residents it will reduce from 15K€ to 10K€.

All cash deposits or withdrawals of more than 10K€ will be notified to the specialist fiscal fraud unit

The maximum spend per month on a prepaid card will reduce to 250€

Face-to-face foreign exchange transactions of more than 1000€ will require presentation of an identity card.

They also reckon that they are going to tighten up on consumer credit ...

All in an attempt to tackle "low-cost terrorism"

Hi,

How long before they make us give them all our money, and dole out weekly pocket money for us to spend?
Whilst the £ to euro is high thinking of transferring from UK bank to French bank 4k to 5k in euros - will we have any problems doing that?
I doubt it: but be prepared for an enquiry from your French bank asking what the source of the funds it.

This is nonsense.

I'm not the brightest person in the world, but IF I wanted to pay someone in cash, I'd start drawing out money in dribs and drabs over several weeks, as it soon mounts up and do as I pleased. Let's face it the reason people usually pay in cash is for work au noir, and if I can think of ways round it, then others can.

PaulT , I transferred money over from my UK account. I did get called in to see my 'personal banker' from La Poste, who, as well as asking me where the money came from, used it as a chance to try and sell me a whole load of other things. I used it as a chance to practice my French!
