AnOther
We are currently looking after a King Charles spaniel for friends (not the first time) andshe simply goes bonkers if she sees a black man on the TV. Even seeingone amongst a group of non blacks will set her off.Anybody else got an apparently racist pet ?

AnOther
How well do you know the people who's dog you are looking after?
Very, why, do you think the dog might have learnt its racism from them [:D][:D][:D]They are definitely not BTW. AnOther
Possible I suppose. AFAIK they have had it from a small puppy but of course I have no way of knowing if such an incident may have occurred.
Mr Coeur de Lion
Thinking back 9 years, my dog was terrified of black people whenever he saw one. Living in Australia, there aren't many blacks there (certainly not where I lived anyway) and he was terrified the first time he encountered one! Dog
It is quite common for dogs to act aggressively towards people of colour, also people in uniform and travellers. It must be a very old built in trait.
AnOther
I have no idea what her reaction is to real black people. Is this wisdom from the horses mouth Dog, who do you instinctively bark at [Www]
Chancer
What you mean the ones on telly are not real? I thought that they had banned all that blacking up along with the minstrels. Most times that dogs react against travellers etc is a result of the pheremones released from their master who is frightened/uneasy, the dogs can smell this even when we have a subconscious fear that we are unaware of.Perhaps it is you that has a sub-conscious problem [6]Have you tried watching Graham Norton with the dog? amos
My friend has a small terrier type dog who goes bananas when her daughter's African boyfriend comes into the house, they are all convinced the dog is racist!
Frederick
I had a dog that went for anybody who carried large objects. He had been kicked by a builder with a plank over his shoulder as a puppy, After that the window cleaner with his ladder was fair game . Never bothered anybody else .. I suspect a black person has given this dog an unpleasant memory
Chancer
My late fathers dog used to attack my stepmother whenever she used the carpet sweeper, the Bex Bissel thingy, she (the dog!) had no problems with the much noisier vacuum cleaner. My dog when I was a child used to attack passing cars or more precisely try to remove their hubcaps, no he didnt come from Liverpool itt was because we used to use them as frisbees and my dog could catch one in mid flight and bite right through it! Celine
Is it the hair he's barking at? My dog barks at anyone with a hat or an afro.
Mr Coeur de Lion
I'm guessing it's due to their eyesight. Apparently it's not the best and they only see in black and white, so a black fella may appear more threatening than a white fella, especially if they're not used to seeing such things. Dog
It's an interesting thought that if dogs see in B/W it makes a difference - perhaps dogs in Africa bark at whites? On an earlier idea I think dogs may pick up pheromones from the owner but I have seen them react when the owner is not there. Frederick
Perhaps dogs in Africa bark at whites ?They go for black guys if the scars on the legs of the dustbin men in Joberg were anything to go by..I think the dogs used to wait for them on dustbin day ! woolybanana
In Durban we had an airedale and an alsatian; they were totally racist. Cost my dad a fortune in torn clothes and thighs and ankles and feet and hands and arms.....
