Gardian
We were in one of our local village's restaurants for lunch the other day. The place is fine, nothing special, but nothing bad. Steaks, moules frites, etc. They could do 80 covers top whack.Right at the end of our meal, around 13.45, there was a lot of table-moving going on. We, along with everybody else there, were counting the number of places being set up. Eighteen!!The customers drifted in............. and when I say drifted, I mean drifted. In one-se and two-se. Youngsters first, then the women, no men. Then, there seemed to be a realisation that the 18 was going to be a few more! finally, a shout to the kitchen "The 18 is now 24!"The men arrived, completely nonplussed. The order process took ages: doubtless the food delivery would turn out to be a lottery! Wish we could have stayed to see it.When I saw the gaffer to pay, I said "Bonne chance". He said, "The chef is close to being suicidal, but ..............."
Judith
Obviously they had had a very good (and long) apero before they (finally) arrived.Sounds very much French to me. It's only the oldies or the ones with no time to spend on a meal who arrive at midday!
