Weedon
Frenchie asks whether I know of France Gall in the UK?Sadly, my education is a bit lacking about French singers....Apart from Mireille Matthieu (sp)...Charles Aznavoice...Sacha Distel...Jacques Cousteau (Somewhere under the sea)...Maurice the horse rider...Edith Piaf and Gilbert who has a similar sound and style to Paulo Conte. Pierre ZFP
So, I watched some BBC TV on Saturday, actually the first TV I've watch since Christmas and what was on?The selection of the UK entry singer/song for EurovisionI watched in sort of horrible fasination as1) a pair of twins singing horribly flat (what was that? novelty value?)2) a bloke with an adequate voice for say a West End musical chorus3) a girl with a half decent voice a la Whitney Houstenbelted out some songs for the honour (Ha!) of representing UK and singing an especially written ditty by Sir Andy Lloyd Weber.OK so the girl won, big moment, sing the song.IT WAS AWFUL !!!It was a ballad called something like ME ME MEStarted in the usual Sir ALW way and just when it should have burst into a rousing middle 8 bars it just limped along for another 3 minutes or so.Instantly forgettable, another 'Nil Points' I think Rant over, sorryEdited for spelling and English. Sorry, I souldn't post when I'm so annoyed
Frenchie
Wow Pierre, I do understand..When you think how important the UK s been regarding music in its famous past, and even now in some respects !!That sentence may not be very English but I'm sure you ll get the gist of it !! Pierre ZFP
Very well put I thinkI know that the Eurovision song contest is just a bit of nonsense but there are great British songwriters and there are great British singers so why do we get this embarsssing third rate rubbish? I think that is what is annoying me so muchAnd this year we won't even have Terry Wogan's acerbic comments to liven it up I'll be cheering for the French entry, whatever the song is [:D]

Âme
Eh? It says that song came 4th, but then how could you be expected to remember, it's soooo long ago. [Www]http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=S_Iu0wzotvMFrance won the year that I was born, but shared the glory. Those outfits! Frenchie
Bonjour teapot, rebonjour Pierre..Same here in France, our best singers don't go to the Eurovision...I was born in 1965 , I know what the beatles were singing, and France Gall was our singer http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-d2mnuhJahUshe had a long career after... I played one of her songs the other day in this very thread..

Who made that poor kid wear those short trousers in 1956? I remember Gigliola Cinquetti (who?) in 1964 and that Spanish girl must have taken some time to learn the words in 1968.I must get out a bit more I think.
