Albert the InfoGipsy
Just wondering if anyone here ever went to the France Shop in Stow on the Wold. It belonged to France Magazine before Archant took them over. Mrs Infogypsy and our youngest tadpole used to work there. I always wondered how it came to be where it was. Cassis
Hi Albert. Answer is no, but I have a recollection of a toy museum, I think.
Albert the InfoGipsy
IIRC that was about 50 yards down the road. Never visited it all the time we lived there.
Gardian
I remember it well. For about 5 yrs on the trot (late 90's, I think), we used to have a Christmas shopping weekend in the Cotswolds at about this time of the year. Queen's Hotel in Cheltenham, Sunday pub lunch in Stow. The France shop was quite a new building I seem to recall.Didn't they have a brief venture in the French Tourist Office in Piccadilly (on a sort-of mezzanine floor)? Will
Never been there, but I remember a French shop in Brighton, in Kensington Gardens I think.
Baz
I visited the Shop in the 1990's, it seemed to have everything about France and more. Alas, times have changed but was very surprised to find a specialist shop of this kind in Stow, but I do remember how busy it was on the day of my visit.Baz

[/quote]yes - and very useful it was - long gone and in fact the Fr Tourist Office in Piccadilly is now so useless I never bother with it though I pass it every day on my way to and from work! Catalpa
I loved the France shop and as I was often in the Stow / Moreton area, was a regular visitor. In those days, pre-maison secondaire, we normally only got over to France once, possibly twice a year and I used to get my fix of France by visiting the shop. They had some gorgeous posters and odds and ends and I used to get a lot of quirky small gifts from them.
