Beryl
I have read that a number of people have been sucessful in taking their bank to court in relation to the excessive charges that they levy if you go over drawn. I know the easy solution is that you shouldn't but its not always that easy for some people and I could never understand how banks expect people in dire straits to be able to pay the (IMO )hefty charge for sending out a letter. This may be of help to some people in the UK ( of course people can do it themselves via the Small Claims Courts)http://www.unfairbankcharge.co.uk/thanks_mail.php
Chief
If you plan on doing this with your bank, it is advisable to open an account elsewhere first, as i saw a watchdog type programme recently, and the banks cough up on the steps of the court, and by the time you get the cheque they have closed your account. I don't know if they operate a blacklisting system with other banks, but if you have an account already established you should e okay...i think...ish....
