Public Consultation WTP?

Bugsy

Recommended Posts

The UK government have been taken to task over the lack of consultation over the future of nuclear power. They have been told to carry out a new full consultation programme. Tony Bliar (that is not mis-spelt) has said that "this will not affect the outcome and that new NP stations will be built". My question is simply this:

What is the point of having a 'public consultation' if the decision has already been taken ?

Well he certainly was, shall we say, less than honest about Iraq for one and the list is really endless.

Well, what sort of honour would you like ?

Bugbear it was always thus.  Public consultation is a cog in the big wheel of the overall process.  Most things are already decided but Parliament as part of the checks and balances impose a three six or more month consultation period.  It is nothing more or less than a charade.

Again here in France we have the THT lines from Flaminville down to the Loire and Bretagne.  They had an extensive public consultation and yet the Prefet of the Manche is waxing lyrical on the fact that it is going to happen and the public consultation has not strictly finished.

Todays judgment was in the High Court when HMG decision was challenged by what is called a Judicial Review and based upon the Wednesbury Principles.  Google that and see what the basis of irrational illogical and unreasonable behaviour is held to be. Wednesbury was about a cinema and if my first year law studies are correct was about 1890!!!!!! or thereabouts.

Incidentally this hearing costs probably in excess of £100,000 at the very least.
