Christine Animal
So are we happier with them or would we be better off without them, not for business purposes of course, but those in the home ?It's lovely and sunny today, just think what you could be doing outside instead of sitting reading this. One thing's for sure
suein56
Chuckle, chuckle; gosh that first pic could be me sometimes - I often have a quick look at the newspaper headlines and LF whilst drinking my first cup of tea of the day. Whoops, I'll have to be more careful in future.thanks Christine ...SueEdit: no idea what happened with the font size there - can't seem to edit it out either. Furry Knickers
Dearest Mrs AnimalI have to say that I would rather be outside in the garden playing with me pug (I have just been doing that) or taking me dinky off up the canal! The computers are great too mind! but not every hour of the day. It can be fun searching the web, but the novelty does wear off! I remember searching the web when I was only a small thing back in Kildare. It was on a lovely willow tree in our garden and I would regularly release the poor flies and lacewings that got caught up in it! One grand summers day, I was doing me morning search of the web before mass, and I was devastated to find Colin (me pet blue bottle) trapped in the web! I was too late to save Colin, as he was already having the life sucked out of him by Edgar (the giant spider that lived in the web) I ran inside sobbing to me Mammy and told her about the terrible passing of Colin. She told me that Colin was now in Heaven with Brenda and Helen (me 2 previous pet flies that had passed away) and to say a little prayer for him and light a candle when I go to mass. I then asked her if I could have a sugar sandwich now instead of after mass, and then while I was eating me sandwich, I heard Mungo Jerry on the radiogram! I felt grand then and skipped off to mass and lit me candle and said a little prayer for Colin and that he be reunited with all his family in Heaven, and if God would grant me a new fly! The very next day I met Lucy! "He always answers your prayers" said me Mammy when I told her about Lucy! You know your giraffe arm, I think it's really lovely! It has inspired me to write a song, it is entitled 'The Lady With The Giraffe Arm'
Pierre ZFP
Well, since I scratch out a living by telling 'pewters what to do I can't say too much against them. To be fair, I only really use industrial sized executive servers, not these toy PC thingies, but having said that, the high end PC these days is much more complex in terms of graphics if not sheer grunt. The PC is by far the most complex bit of kit in your house and it cost relatively nothing and you have the ability to access information and talk to almost anyone without the physical limitation of actually going to places in person. Whatever we say about operating systems, they are amongst the most complex bits of software you'll ever come across. One of the reasons that Ronny Regan's Starwars project was cancelled was that no-one reckoned it was possible to write/maintain a system with more than 25 million lines of code. Yeah, right, Vista has more than 125 million lines of code. I have seen programs of 5 lines which would be impossible to test within the current lifetime of our solar system. Anything more than 25k lines and you are really just testing 'most likely' cases. Aircraft these days run on the minimal amount of code possible, around 100k lines, just think of that on your next flight. And you want it to be easy to use with no real understanding of 'how' ? Well Microweak and others spend billions doing just that, just don't be surprised if it goes wrong sometimes, it always will.

Pierre ZFP
[:D][:D][:D]Something a tutor said to me many years ago - 'A computer can do only one thing and that is to count from 0 to 1, everything else is an illusion'
Renaud
Le Corbusier is quoted as saying that "a house was a machine for living in" now I begin to think that too many people apply that definition to their PC.
